Class #7 Spoken English in Malayalam



Class # 7-CONJUCTION
Conjunction is word which joins two word s sentences or phrases.
Ex. Raju is a good singer and a foot ball player.
       You may do work or leave the home

 In the above sentences words and/or are conjunctions.

Here are some examples.
You will not succeed unless you workhard.
I waited till the train arrived.
Do not go before I come.
He is richer than me.
Catch me if you can.
My father is diabetic;hence he avoids ice-creams and cool drinks.
The students were talking while the teacher was taking the class.
Take flight to Banglore ;otherwise you may not reach there in time.
Maria has been sick for a month ;consequently she could not attend her friend’s marriage.
Vinil  is very hard working whereas his younger brother is quite lazy.

He is slow________steady.
We are very happy _______you have come.
John______James are nurses.
You can have milk ______tea.
Correlative conjunctions (cohesive devices)
Co-relative  conjunctions are used to form compound sentences.
Both …and:                                     Both Mammotty and Mohanlal are good actors.
Either ….or:                                      Either Rohit or Rasheed has to go.
Not only….but also:                         She not only sings well but also dances elegantly.
As..so..:                                             As you sow so you reap.
So..that:                                           He was so studious that he could pass the exam.
Such..that:                                         It was such a boring class so I  fell asleep.
Whether – or:                                    I do not care whether you cook or not.
Although:                                          Although he worked hard, he failed.
Though:                                             Though he is rich,he is not contented.
In spite  of:                                        Inspite of her poor health,he attended the meeting.
So that :                                             We eat so that we may live.
However:                                          Karen is rich;however, her cousin Kate is poor.                        
Otherwise:                                        You'd better take a taxi otherwise, you'll arrive late.
Although yet:                                  Although Jain did well in the singing comptetion yet she did not get the prize.

Under line the linking words in the given sentences
